ATT costs $375 million to improve network services in San Antonio

During 2011, ATT made nearly 400 wireless network upgrades in San Antonio focusing on four key categories, the company announced.

  These enhancements include:

Activating more than 10 new cell sites or towers to improve network coverage.

Deploying faster fiber-optic connections to more than 325 cell sites.

Adding approximately 50 extra layers of capacity to cell sites, which ATT equates to adding lanes to a highway.

Upgrading 10 cell sites to provide faster mobile Internet speeds.

In addition, ATT launched its 4G LTE service in the San Antonio area on Sept. 19, 2011.

Overall, ATT invested more than $375 million in its San Antonio area wireless and wireline networks from 2009 through 2011.

Our goal is to deliver a network experience that mobilizes everything for customers, says Chris Penrose, vice president and general manager of AT&T South Texas. The ongoing investment we’re making in San Antonio is designed to increase coverage and reliability, and to provide advanced services to our customers.

Dallas-based ATT (NYSE: T) operates one of the nation's largest Wi-Fi networks with nearly 30,000 ATT Wi-Fi hotspots in the U.S. and provides access to nearly 225,000 hotspots globally through roaming agreements.
